Three Joyful days at Catherine’s Creek
On Saturday 8th of November a group of Muslim students went to a camp organized and run by the PUSH Program, an organization whose aims are to help Muslim adolescents develop their potential and contribute to Australian society.
The students were from KSSC and NPSC. The camp was free and everyone was allowed to bring a friend. Most students were between 13 -18 years old. There were about sixty people including the supervisors. We gathered at NPSC and left by 9:30am. In the bus there were students from different backgrounds: Australian, Afghani, Iranian, Iraqi, Kenyan, Lebanese, and Saudi. Everyone was friendly. It took us two hours to reach the camp.
We arrived at 11:30 am. The camp, surrounded by a range of mountains, was clean and tidy. We all introduced ourselves to one another. Then we went to find our rooms and set our beds and things. After that we had lunch.
The first activity we had was a game of soccer: Chandler versus Noble Park. We won! We had a lot of fun. The other activities were swimming, canoeing, flying fox, archery, table tennis, snooker and tennis. We also had many discussions throughout the day about Islam and prayed as the religion recommended.
We had visitors from our school: Mrs Buckingham, her daughter, and Mrs Eberts. We appreciated their visit and support. Ms Zamani was with us during the three days. An employee from the Immigration Department as wells as a lady, who recorded our thoughts about being a Muslim in Australia, also came to see us. Food was fantastic. We had rice, chicken, sausages, other meat, lasagna, eggs and vegetables. We had many snacks and delicious desserts and fruits. We enjoyed eating all the food. On the last day of the camp we thanked everybody: the camp organizer (Ms Saba Hakim), the chef, the camp owner, the interpreter (Ms Farhnaz Zamani) and all the supervisors. The camp owner was very pleased with the group.
We left on Monday the 10th of November at 5:00 pm and arrived at NPSC at 7:00pm.
