Vocational Education and Training Program

The aims of the VET Program are to:
  • provide a link between education and industry
  • provide students with wider educational choices and a more meaningful educational experience
  • enable students an opportunity to undertake training in a specific vocational area whilst at school
  • allow students an opportunity to gain direct practical experience and industry exposure through completing structured workplace learning
  • enable students the opportunity to complete a nationally recognised vocational qualification
  • allow students to combine their studies with vocational training and experience within the workplace
  • prepare students for employment and/or further study in a particular industry

Additional information about the VET Program

  • VET Programs can be completed in conjunction with VCE, VCAL and SBNAs
  • VCE students who have completed a VET course may gain credit for units completed and may also be eligible for an ENTER contribution if they choose to undertake a Scored Assessment
  • Employers value students who have successfully completed VET programs and gained some practical experience within the industry

Keysborough College VET Programs

Certificate II in Business Administration (Chandler and Heatherhill Campuses)
Focuses on the skills required to become an effective and efficient member of a business administration team. Skills developed include preparation and maintenance of information for both clients and financial purposes. Students also learn how to work effectively by developing communication skills and learning how to use relevant business technologies.

Certificate II in Community Services Work (Chandler Campus)
Focuses on the skills required to work in the community services industry. These include an understanding of Occupational Health and Safety regulations, the ability to source information for clients and colleagues and working within a casework framework.

Certificate III in Financial Services (Heatherhill Campus)
Focuses on the skills required for monitoring and controlling of accounts and the use of technology in the workplace. Students then go on to develop the skills required for maintaining financial reports and the reconciliation and monitoring of accounts receivable.

Certificate II and III in Hospitality (Operations) (Heatherhill Campus)
Focuses on the skills needed to work in the Hospitality Industry. These include organisation and preparation of food, knowledge of health and safety issues when dealing with food and workplace hygiene practices. Students continuing on with Certificate III, develop knowledge related to food and beverage service and expand on their understanding of links between Kitchen and Service Areas.

Certificate II &III in Multimedia (Heatherhill Campus)
Focuses on the development of practical skills related to computer animation and video production. Students are also given the opportunity to build a portfolio of work which is presented in a number of formats including as a website and an interactive multimedia product.

Certificate II in Music Industry Skills (Foundation) and Certificate III in Music Industry Skills (Technical Production) (Chandler Campus)
The Foundation level focuses on developing the skills required to operate PA and lighting systems, as well as the principle of marketing the music industry through the use of the internet and the development of music websites. The Technical level focuses on Artistic management skills, including contracts and negotiations, and helps students develop skills associated with recording techniques and software.

CISCO Computer Networking Program (Heatherhill Campus)
Focuses on the theory required to develop an understanding of programming networks and the operation of required components such as routers and
switches. Students then go onto developing practical skills relating to the development of networks and their maintenance.


Application Information

Students wishing to enrol in a VET subject must do so through the SELLEN VET portal ( www.sellen.vic.gov.au ), between September and October. Late applications may be considered.

Enrolment requests will be finalised in November. This process requires applicants to attend the relevant Keysborough College Campus. At the time of
final enrolment, a non-refundable deposit of $150 is payable with the balance due by the end of January prior to starting the course.

VCE Unit Status

Students who successfully complete a 2 year VET course are eligible for credits for VCE units. Students wishing to receive an ENTER contribution from the course must undertake Scored Assessment for the purpose of achieving a Study Score. This Study Score can contribute directly to the primary four subjects undertaken by the student or as an additional fifth or sixth subject.

Reports

Students will receive reports on their progress at the end of each semester. Parents are also encouraged to attend Parent-Teacher Interviews.
